Paris: le Premier Jour
We left for Paris at 5:00pm-ish. I said goodbye to Miles and he was very sad even though I was excited. Seriously though, I missed him a lot on the trip since he is my French counterpart. I must take him some day.
J'arrive à Paris! This is the first thing we saw when we got off the Metro from the airport. It's the fountain at the Parc de la Villette and it made us REALLY excited.
La Tour Eiffel!
The first thing we did once in Paris, after checking into our hotel, was see the Eiffel Tower. Ta da! There it is! A lot of people debate about whether or not it is ugly, I do not. It's official. Now that I have been there, seen it in its environment instead of a photo, I really think it's awesome. Go Gustave!
Naturally, we wanted to go up the Eiffel Tower. Since the line to walk up to the first and second floors was half the length as the elevator line, and we are youthful, we decided to make the hike in our dresses! It was awesome! This is a view of the lovely Champ de Mars from the first floor.
We did cheat and take the elevator to the very top third floor, but that's only because there are no stairs. The views were stellar as you can see, but it was a bit crowded for my liking. Alas it is all good because I can now say that I've climbed to the top of the Eiffel! Woot!
L'Arc de Triomphe et Les Champs-Élysées!
Afterwards, we felt that it was time to head to L'Arc de Triomphe! This was definitely one of my favorite monuments, partly because it's gorgeous, and partly because it reminded me a lot of my brother and his silliness. Vive Napoleon! Also, not the RIDICULOUS nine lane roundabout from hell that surrounds it. Tourists tried to walk across that! Seriously.
