Light Soldier

There is a little light outside that flickers. Now that I think about it, “strobes” is a more accurate description. It clicks on and off so rapidly it wears itself out and shuts off. If I wait and look long enough it will reboot itself and continue on its sputtering rampage. You have to be patient though. Sometimes it takes more than just a few minutes if the previous fit was severe enough.

It may be a bit of a stretch, but it feels to me as if this light is a fallen guardian. In its prime, it illuminated the parking lot, eliminating the ill-omened darkness. However, now in old age it cannot stay lit long. Darkness overtakes him and his bulb gives out. He rests, and then returns to fight again, but shortly failure follows. Some may find this an utterly depressing thought, but to me, it’s a beautiful thing. Refusal to give up is something to be admired.

Later days, continued persistence.
